OK, brace yourselves. Are you sitting down?
Yesterday it snowed, again (or is it still?) You are shocked I’m sure. Good thing you were sitting down!
Our yard now looks like this:

There is still one person here who is beside herself.

Please do not tell her she could now easily jump the fence, it’s a secret.
Inside, we have descended into a marathon of mining shows, dredging, digging, prospecting, ghost mining- it doesn’t seem to matter. This season, last season, three years ago. We even went through the behind the scenes episodes. Something we normally abhor and consider cheating on the production’s end of the deal to entertain us.
Yesterday I looked up from the TV long enough to notice that despite my effortsto color and eat as many eggs as I can we still have more laying around. In my contemplation of yet another omelet, I had a huge smelly brain fart. What if you cut off the top and used it as a starter container for seeds? The idea seemed so simple I thought there must be some reason I had not thought of it before.
I went through the trouble shooting possibilities:
- Egg shells are not strong enough. Nope, if those little buggers could handle growing a chicken surely some dirt and roots will be fine.
- The plants would get root bound and kill the plant. I think if you just crack them when you plant them and the roots will push the pieces aside plus calcium is good for roots and soil. Not to mention the other nutrients in the cell membrane of the egg, I bet that is good too.
- It will be too difficult to carve. Nope I have a Dremel; defeater of eggs.
- The plants might grow up confused and think they are chickens! Ok, I was reaching at that point.
I tried it.

So far so good. Now, OFF WITH THIER HEADS!

I planted:
Bush basil: who knows, the roots on that one could be shallow enough to not need to leave the egg. Can you say “desk top egg herb garden?!”
Sunflowers, they will have to leave the egg if they want to live.
Morning glories and marigolds. I have no idea if this will work but wish me luck and I will keep you posted.
Dear sweet lovely daughter, you need to get out. cabin fever has definitely set in. However your eggshell starting containers hold promise. Love you.
